Dandruff is a scalp condition that causes excessive flaking, resulting in the shedding of cells from the stratum corneum layer. The formation of dandruff can result from a multifactorial process. Therefore, anti-dandruff actives are aimed at individually addressing each of the causes that may lead to its occurrence and alleviating its consequences.
Antifungal: Anti-dandruff actives inhibit the proliferation of microorganisms, particularly targeting the yeast Malassezia furfur.
Keratolytic: Anti-dandruff actives eliminate scalp scale buildup. These are exfoliating ingredients.
Antiseborrheic: Anti-dandruff actives are sebum regulators, controlling sebum production, which contributes to the occurrence of oily dandruff.
Antipruritic: Anti-dandruff actives are soothing agents that provide immediate relief, calming the itching and irritation associated with dandruff processes.
To control dandruff, it is recommended to use an anti-dandruff shampoo regularly. Anti-dandruff shampoos, in addition to including anti-dandruff active ingredients, cleanse and respect the scalp with gentle ingredients and an appropriate pH.
